Two people have been identified after a DUI crash in Knoxville. The individuals, a 76-year-old from Virginia and a 45-year-old from Knoxville, were killed, and three others were injured in the accident.
6 News on Your Side reports:
Based on an investigation, it is believed that two vehicles traveling east on I-40 were involved in a rear-end crash just after 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. The first vehicle came to a rest in a lane of I-40 East after the crash, and the second vehicle overturned and rolled across all three lanes and off the road before coming to a rest in the median.
After that, it is believed an individual stopped to help the first vehicle and was struck by an ambulance that was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. The ambulance was traveling from Knoxville to Cocke County.
The driver of the second vehicle was ejected from the car and taken to UT Medical Center with severe injuries. The Knoxville Police Department notes that the driver was potentially under the influence and has been charged with DUI.
The road was closed for several hours to clean up the accident scene, opening around 11:00 a.m.
Banks & Jones can help when you’re injured in an accident
At Banks & Jones, our Knoxville car accident lawyers can help when you or a loved one suffers injury in a car crash. Some of the ways we can support you include:
Gathering evidence to support your claim
Our attorneys conduct a comprehensive investigation, collecting all necessary documentation, including police reports, medical records, witness statements, and expert testimony. We also have experience working with accident reconstruction experts, who can help demonstrate how the accident occurred.
This evidence is important in not only proving that you were injured but that your injuries were caused by the other party’s negligence. By meticulously documenting every detail of your claim, we give you a strong foundation for your case.
Negotiating with insurance companies
Dealing with insurance companies after an accident can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, insurers typically focus on minimizing payouts. We understand the tactics insurance companies use to undervalue your claim or deny it altogether. We have extensive experience negotiating with insurers – and we know how to counter lowball offers and avoid common pitfalls that might jeopardize your compensation. Let our attorneys handle all the insurance communication on your behalf so you can focus on your recovery without added stress.
Calculating the full value of your claim
Our Knoxville personal injury lawyers understand that you need compensation to cover every aspect of your injury, not just your immediate medical bills. We work to calculate the full scope of your damages, including future and current medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, future care needs, and your pain and suffering. We want to make sure no damages are overlooked and that you have a clear and complete picture of the worth of your claim.
For example, if you suffered injuries requiring ongoing physical therapy or if you will miss significant time from work to recover, we can factor this into your claim. We seek compensation that reflects the true cost of your accident, protecting you from out-of-pocket expenses in the future.
Representing you in court
While it’s true that many car accident claims settle out of court, sometimes, cases require litigation to achieve a fair result. At Banks & Jones, we’re skilled litigators prepared to take your case to court when necessary. We present a compelling case to a judge or jury, using our knowledge of Tennessee car accident laws and strong evidence to fight for the compensation you deserve.
Because we know that going to court can be intimidating, our Knoxville car accident attorneys make sure you’re fully informed and supported every step of the way. We can guide you through the entire process, answer your questions, and prepare you for each stage of the case. Our team has the experience to handle complex car accident cases and is never afraid to pursue litigation if that’s what it takes for a successful outcome.
Filing paperwork and adhering to deadlines
Here in Tennessee, we have a one-year statute of limitations on personal injury claims, meaning you need to file your car accident claim within one year of the accident. Missing this deadline can result in losing the chance to recover compensation, no matter the validity of your case. We meet all deadlines and file your paperwork properly, allowing your claim to proceed without unnecessary delays.
Providing compassionate support and personalized service
One of the things that sets our Knoxville law firm apart is our dedication to treating each client with empathy and respect. We understand that a car accident can take a huge physical, emotional, and financial toll, and we’re committed to providing compassionate and personalized service. We take the time to understand your unique circumstance and provide tailored guidance – from your first consultation all the way through to the resolution of your case.
We can also offer support beyond the legal aspects of your case, connecting you with medical professionals and other resources to help with your recovery.
